IMPORTANT CHANGES -August 19, 2009: The Customs Tariff January 2009 main volume and amendments to date have been replaced by a new main volume titled amendment T2009-6, reflecting amendments to existing Tariff rates, new Tariff items, as well as new preferential tariff treatments brought about by the following trade agreements:
  • Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the States of the European Free Trade Association (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland)
  • Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Republic of Iceland
  • Agreement on Agriculture between Canada and the Kingdom of Norway
  • Agriculture between Canada and the Swiss Confederation
  • Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Peru
  • Agreement on the Environment between Canada and the Republic of Peru
  • Agreement on Labour Cooperation between Canada and the Republic of Peru.
These changes amend all 99 chapters of the Tariff and therefore required the printing of a new main volume released as amendment T2009-6 with revisions effective August 1, 2009. Since T2009-6 was posted on the CBSA website shortly after the implementation of amendment T2009-5, the Agency decided that producing a print version of T2009-5 was neither feasible nor cost-effective to subscribers.

Standing order clients will automatically receive and be billed for the new main volume T2009-6.

Please note: there will be a new main volume for 2010.

Notes regarding the January 2009 main volume:

The Customs Tariff 2009 is the Canada Border Services Agency's loose-leaf departmental consolidation of Canada's import duty rates effective January 1, 2009. The Tariff contains the schedule of duty rates for goods imported into Canada, based on the "Harmonized System." It also contains a listing of applicable tariffs according to country of origin. This departmental consolidation is based on information available at the time of publishing. Any changes made to the Customs Tariff after November 1, 2008 are not included, but will be reflected in an amendment package.

The Tariff is valid only for the calendar year for which it is issued, and it is amended periodically over the course of the year. Please see below for amendments released to date. Clients may wish to receive these priced amendments as they are released by registering a standing order with us.
